Kingdom Of Tonga Sept 2007 (4 of 4)
We saw some interesting critters in Tonga.

The Blue Starfish seemed to be the most common type. A great Indigo color!
Zane found this Walking Stick. When disturbed it tucked all the legs in and truly looked like a twig.
This was probably the biggest clam shell we saw during out visit. Now that would make a chowder!
There were tons of Sea Cucumbers of various sizes and colors, some as big as your arm. This one was nestled up to an interesting looking Starfish. Kinda reminded us of characters from Spongebob Squarepants.
We saw many types of crabs, and no doubt there are many more we did not see. This little one was one of the more colorful ones we saw.
These huge spiders were quite common, but did not seem to be terribly vicious. Good thing about that!
There are some giant clams in Tonga which we had read about many years ago. We were excited to see some up close and personal. They actually grow in the coral reef (the ones we saw only the edges stuck out) and break it apart as they get larger. The shells are everywhere and used for ashtrays, garden and cemetary decorations. In this photo there are 3 clams, the largest was about 8" across.
This wee gecko kept us company in our hotel in Vava'u.
